Fashion Friday: Okayplayer's Must-Have Items For Fall 2013

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

With the fall fast upon us we are instituting mandatory Fashion Friday sessions to get you ready for a cooler season. In 2013, streetwear is no longer what it used to be; it's edgy--and dares to play with colorful prints and bold statements. Is it just the hipsters taking over? Is it the next logical step of natural urbanwear evolution? Is it because of skateboarding becoming commercial? Is it because of hip-hop becoming more even more obsessed with consumption than even the infamous bling-bling era? Is it because of Kanye West?

We don't know, but we know what we like. In that spirit, we compiled a selection of must-have brands and pieces who will make your winter hotter. Click through to see what's on our must-have list for Fall 2013.

*Run DMC x Adidas

In 1986 Run DMC dropped "My Adidas" and fans ran to buy shell-toe Adidas, trimmed the fat (shoelaces) and left the price tag still hanging on them. Run DMC x Adidas has been the blueprint and the standard for hip-hop style ever since and by keeping their tribute pieces stripped down to the bone with bold letters and clean black, white, red & grey Adidas has kept that initial cosign as relevant as ever in 2013.

*10 Deep "Dashiki-inspired" Hoodie

Streetwear staple 10 Deep brings a unique spin to the afro-prints and geometric patterns currently dominating the racks. The result is a nice and easy to wear hoodie, distinctive and yet flexible enough to wear every damn day.

*Boischt Biz Markie Tee

We always love a unique tee with a late 80s feel, and this one has a layout so graphic its practically editorial. Plus, you could never go wrong with Biz.

*Daily Paper Kenya Jacket + Printed Shirt

Like they said themselves: "Daily Paper progresses to grab bits and pieces from different African cultures and translating this into contemporary design with an unique rugged character." Inspired by Mali mud cloth and the Kenyan Maasai tribe, the solid black and striking emblem result in an everyday fall jacket that you can use on many occasions. As to the shirt, with its bold print, for once you can talk loud with out saying anything--in a good way.

*The Nike Sneakerboot

Fall is just advance promotion for Winter, and in order to keep your feet dry and warm, Nike presents the Sneaker Boot. It will be ideal for cool-weather performance as it has been created to help you go though tough weather in style, boasting: "added height, traction and weatherproofing, evolve icons for lightweight functionality and rugged resistance to the elements."

*Wood Wood Wool Jacket + Snap Brim Hat

THE classic look for gentleman of the old school, or as they're known round here "Okayplayers." When you see the hat and the coat as separate pieces, you wouldn't necessarily think "I'ma look good in that where's my credit card?" But label Wood Wood provided a great lookbook to let you see how all the pieces fit together. This is clearly a "winner jacket" and the hat will be a great asset in different styles. But in combination, you'll be so together they can't tell where you end and where you begin.

*City Fellaz Knit + Printed Shirt

These two pieces immediately make us think of that Brooklynite who got style. That person might pair one of these with a well-fitted pair of jeans, a hat, fake (or real glasses ) and a great attitude.

*Odd Future Boat Print Tee

For Indian summer days or layered with a button down or denim jacket, a cool easy tee is a necessary building block of fall fashion game.

Black and white is always a must-have and these shoes are rad. Umit Benan is a fashion visionary and if you want to be as cool as this guy here, wear Buscemi.
