The Round-Up: Best Songs of The Week ft. Kaytranada, Lil B, Kari Faux and More

17 of the week’s finest frequencies
It’s been a painful week for us all. In the days following a Neo-Nazi demonstration in Charlottesville, VA where one civilian and two officers were killed, it’s not hard for minds to race back down the hole of imminent doom, especially when the most powerful man on the planet basically spent his week defending the evil, “on both sides.”
And while it’ll probably, no definitely, get worse before it gets better, the response to that hateful protest and its deadly aftershock has been encouraging. Cities across the country are now swiftly moving to scrape their streets of any remaining confederate memorials. Baltimore proved it was precisely that easy and removed all four of its memorials overnight. And while I was hoping this column would flip into a genuinely life-enriching discovery tool for you by this point of the year, the hate and fear baiting of the current administration has cemented it a convenient distraction. But I guess we’ve all got our coping methods, and we’ll need them more than ever to escape the nationwide mental health crisis invoked by the torrential stupidity and perpetual failures of 45.
It’s not exactly our meatiest mix, but this week’s edition of The Round-Up has new sounds from Kaytranada (whose “STROBELITE” remix leads a new batch of Gorillaz-commisioned flips) Kari Faux (adding a note to the already exceptional Insecure season two OST) Gucci Mane (who remains Atlanta’s most prolific trap rapper,) Lil B (the resurgent internet rap phenom) as well as Saba, Leikeli47, Buddy, Zack Villere and more.
