Here Are Our Predictions For The 2018 Golden Globes
We pick the winners for the 2018 Golden Globes. Do you agree? Did we get it right? Only time will tell.
The 2018 Golden Globe nominations are out in the world, and boy, are they something. We’re not going to hop on our soapbox to ask about the “Best Director” category, but just know that we’re hoping Jordan Peele and Dee Rees gets a chance to win when the Oscars are announced.
Other than that, next year’s 75th annual gala looks to be a continuation of our black AF awakening in mass media. Issa Rae, Sterling K. Brown, Octavia Butler and their respective projects (we see you, Master of None) are leading the way over institutions such as Dame Judi Dench, Meryl Streep and Reese Witherspoon (not so much an instution).
With all this new info out in the world, we here @Okayplayer have decided to predict the winners in advance of the 2018 Golden Globes. Do you agree with our choices? Do you have some of your own? Share with us your predictions before the winners are announced on Jan. 7 and join in on the conversation in our message boards as well.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television:
Robert De Niro, “The Wizard of Lies”
Jude Law, “The Young Pope”
Kyle MacLachlan, “Twin Peaks”
Ewan McGregor, “Fargo”
Geoffrey Rush, “Genius”
Prediction: Robert De Niro. While Twin Peaks and Fargo had great showings on television, there was something about seeing Robert De Niro as the criminal Bernie Madoff that proved that the old guy still has it when he wants to trot it out. Jude Law made a strong impact, also, it was just that that Young Pope show was a bit too weird for our tastes.
Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television:
“Big Little Lies”
“Feud: Bette and Joan”
“Top of the Lake: China Girl”
Prediction: Big Little Lies. It was on everyone’s must-watch list, the second season is being highly praised even before production has started, and come on, Top of the Lake: China Girl wasn’t really all that good. As an aside, if you haven’t seen Feud: Bette and Joan, it should be on your list before we kick off a new year.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television:
Alfred Molina, “Feud”
Alexander Skarsgard, “Big Little Lies”
David Thewlis, “Fargo”
David Harbour, “Stranger Things”
Christian Slater, “Mr. Robot”
Prediction: Christian Slater. USA’s Mr. Robot can do no wrong in the voting public’s eyes. It has everything: strong drama, daring thrills, espionage, internet hacking, a social commentary on today’s society that we can all relate to, and Christian Slater. He is a tour de force on this show, and sure, the Hollywood Foreign Press and its voters will acknowledge his talent come Jan. 7.
