I thought the album was tight as hell, and for him to have signed with Akon, he still kept it Offishall. Dudes don't listen no more, they just go "man he with Akon" and dubb the album trash, let me hear some of you haters make an album, so I can add another drink coaster to my collection. - Cornerboy

The album is good, not great. He's different from most rappers, with his dancehall-reggae style. I give it 75. - It's good.

This album is not an 89. I think OKP has sold out. We can't trust your judgment anymore. The album is not good. It's more like a 69. Seriously. - What's up with OKP

What did everyone expect? The man signed to a major label, so that's the type of music he came out with. I actually prefer this over 99% of the music played on BET. Just like any album, 'Not 4 Sale' has its flaws, but there's also a few conscious tunes like "Due Me a Favour", "Digital Motown" and "Still Eyerize". Four tunes: "Bad Like We Bad", "Burnt", "Ill Eagle Alien" and "Nina" are the best ones on the album. I've been a fan of Kardinal since 2000, when he came out with "BaKardi Slang", but he did not disappoint me with this album. - Trey-C

Kardinal in his prime: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvnc_T4ymVI

On the Akon, Rihanna, T-pain... my BET watching friend told me he finally "made it". To make it seems to mean to let go of individuality and originality, and create the formulaic material majors are looking for.

I'm from Toronto and I've been following him for a while and this album sounds like everything else on BET now. - d-mix

this album is garbage.. there is not one song where i feel kardinal has moved me or influenced me in any way compared to his previous work.. straight up bubblegum rap chasing after the dough.. I can't blame him, but whoever said this album is "fire" obviously doesn't know what the term means and needs to take it out of their vocabulary. why do people always have to hype shit up? - very poor review...

I totally agree with you future69, we should embrace the fact that there's finally a mainstream hip-hop artist representing Toronto and Canada on an international level. Instead, we're arguing about Kardi supposedly "selling out", even though he's STILL spitting positive lyrics, STILL making reggae/dancehall-influenced music, and STILL making an innovative fusion of music which compliments his unique style. - Will from T-Oh!

at the end of the day kardi did what he had to do to get his...dont hate...embrace that hes from the dot and hes makin moves. Sure its not as street/underground as some of his older shit...but he still gives everyone a lil something on this album...mainstream...underground...dancehall...new fans old fans. Everyone should be gettin behind kardi cause as of right now there aint no body else from the dot blowin up anytime soon. There are some obvious mis steps on this album but he still spits hot fire and reps the dot to th fullest...what more do you want? BIG UPPSS KARDI!! - future69

"In Kardi's case, he is attempting to break the American market for the second time."

Try the 29,000th time...this time he actually broke through because he gave up and decided to give the people what they wanted. (Read: SOLD OUT)

I like dude much better as a producer (see Choclair's "Let's Ride", and Glenn Lewis' "Back For More"). - DigablePlanet

So you're telling me that every time an artist makes the transition from underground to mainstream, they're automatically selling out? What if they wanted to be a "star" since they were a kid? In Kardi's case, he is attempting to break the American market for the second time. Kardi was supposed to release his commercial breakthrough "Firestarter Vol. 2", in 2003, but his label MCA Records folded. "Sell out" or not, I still think the album's great, and he didn't sacrifice his original style. - Second response

"...hip-hop heads were not his target audience this time. You have to understand that Kardi is trying to get mass appeal outside of the underground scene."

That sounds like selling out to me...

Kardi did not sell out, because he did not change his original style. He stays true to his Toronto/Jamaican roots and it shows in his music. In the eyes of hip-hop heads, he "sold out", but hip-hop heads were not his target audience this time. You have to understand that Kardi is trying to get mass appeal outside of the underground scene. Personally, I think he put together a pretty solid product. - Response to "wow"...

that was the absolute weakest review ive ever read. Did the reviewer have to shit has pants or something? Is that why is was so half assed?! That review should have talked WAY more about Kardinal: the fact that he sold out by signing to Akon, he used to be about the "real" shit, then goes on to name his Akon label debut "Not 4 Sale." Is he kidding?! - wow...

coming from Toronto I have to say this album is fire. I can say that because i've been a fan of Kardi since time. You need to just be a t.dot native to know Kardis' style and how he puts himself out there as a unique emcee. If you want some classic Kardi, get Quest for Fire Vol 1...because that album really is fire. As for Kardi signing with Akon...dunno man...I think you could do better Kardi...but big ups with the new album and all the best...keep representing t.dot to the fullest...

Black Jays is still the team!!!! - sin-cere

The album is dope. I think Kardi held his own on this one, even though it sounds way more mainstream than his previous work. Most of the people who don't like the album simply don't like commercial music, but the music on here is BETTER than most commercial music on the radio. I don't like most of the music played on "rhythmic top 40" radio, but this album is an exception, and Kardi did a good job. (80/100) - Will from T-Oh!

Basically this "review" could've just said something like:

"For years, Toronto emcees have been overlooked by us in the States...until finally one of them created an album that was so cliche, it's getting a lot of airplay just like the rest of the crap people are releasing these days..."

Just because T-Dot is getting someone out there in the mainstream finally, doesn't mean it's a good thing. For proof, listen to this album. G'night! - DigablePlanet
