Haiku D'Etat
is a hip-hop group composed
of three artists: Aceyalone
& Mikah 9
from the Freestyle
Fellowship and Abstract
Rude of Abstract
Tribe Unique (ATU).
The trio was first heard on
their 2000 self-titled release:
offering a jazzy yet soulful
mix of some live musical elements
with the bold, socio-conscious
lyrics, which came to embody
the definition of the group's
name - a poetry takeover.
It's been 5 years since the
first, critically acclaimed
album's release. Obviously
a new Haiku was long overdue.
Reason being that all three
members have thriving solo
careers that keep them busy
on tour and in the studio.
Decon and
Project Blowed Recordings
present the new Haiku album,
Coup De Theatre
(a sudden dramatic
turn of events in a play).
This time around, the triumvirate
reunites as seasoned veterans
with a more enlightened perspective
on what they want to convey
as a group. Realizing each
other's strengths they have
taken their rightful roles
on this new album to achieve
an incredible blend of Acey
"the poet", Mikah
"the jazz" and Ab
"the soul."
Production
duties on the album are mostly
handled by Fat Jack
("the elephant")
whose addition of live instrumentation
and feel-good sampling style
works well with these three
heavyweights as well as Haiku
D'Etat's original formula.
Other musical contributions
were made by Lyrics
Born, Blackalicious,
Kenny Segal and
Boss Beats.
In
an age where market saturation
plagues the music industry,
the public cries out for something
new – something different.
The stage has been set. Haiku's
re-entrance on the scene is
truly a coup de theatre.
It's time for a poetry takeover.
