Zoe Kravitz Joins 'Harry Potter' Spinoff 'Fantastic Beasts'

We've been seeing more and more of Zoe Kravitz on the big screen in recent years, and now we're about to see her bring a literal meaning to #BlackGirlMagic.

Kravitz has been added to the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them cast, which already stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Ezra Miller and Alison Sudol.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Kravitz has a small role in the first Fantastic Beasts film, but there's the possibility for her to return with a bigger part in the sequel.

Set in New York 70 years before the events in the Harry Potter books and film series, Fantastic Beasts follows Newt Scamander (Redmayne), a Magizooologist who ventures into a secret community of witches and wizards as he attempts to document magical creatures. His book is eventually used at Hogwarts, where Harry Potter attends school.

Author J.K. Rowling wrote the screenplay for the forthcoming film (this serves as her screenwriting debut), while David Yates (the director of the final four Harry Potter films as well as Fantastic Beasts) is directing the follow-up. The first film will be released on November 18, while the sequel is scheduled for November 16, 2018.

Regardless of the role this is still an incredible step forward for Kravitz's already impressive movie career. She starred in George Miller's well received Mad Max: Fury Road; the Divergent film franchise with Shailene Woodley; Sundance standout Dope; and the upcoming indie Vincent N Roxxy (which Questlove is providing the soundtrack for)

Last year we got the opportunity to chat with Kravitz about her band Lolawolf; working alongside The Roots frontman Tariq "Black Thought" Trotter in her first starring film role Yelling To The Sky; and what it's like seeing her dad Lenny Kravitz perform onstage with Katy Perry.
