Weekend Money Battle With Druggy Demons On New Single "Painkiller"

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Tortured by inner demons and a looming sense of dream, Weekend Money's latest single "Painkiller" is snapshot of the party life gone wrong. The brand new single from the Brooklyn duo opens with dark horror flick instrumentation before dropping into deep trap bass and, well, even more menace. "Ain't no painkiller that can kill this pain / Ain't no pain killer that can calm this brain," MC Ne$$ repeats during the track's hook, which arises as a warning call to those caught up in heavy drug use, no matter how glamorous it might seem.

"People out here losing they minds, using drugs like some kinda life raft when in reality it's only drowning us more," Ne$$ said. "I haven't been to a therapist since I was a kid so like I said in our song "Grace" from the Freddie Merkury project 'this shit is therapy' & not on no cliche rapper shit, mental health is a struggle for a lot of us out here. If it wasn't for these raps I'd probably be in an asylum. Enjoy.”

Musically the track is one of the sharpest and most mature offerings we've heard from Weekend Money, full ambient clinks and multiform bass sounds that gurgle beneath the surface of each tortured verse. The group has already had a very busy 2015 touring through Australia, Bali and Hong Kong. The duo has confirmed that a new 5 track EP is in the works and will see the light of day in early summer. But for now, enjoy the darkness of "Painkiller" and allow yourself to sink into Ne$$'s dark twisted fantasy.
