Watch The Ava DuVernay Produced Short Film For Common's 'Black America Again'

Common

Common just recently released his 11, yes 11, studio album, Black America Again. The album feautres appearances from Bilal, BJ The Chicago Kid, Tasha CobbsJohn Legend,  Robert Glasper, Marsha Ambrosius and more. The project was produced by Karriem Riggins, who revealed that the duo are already at work on another album. Read our full interview with Riggins here. In promotion for the album release Common dropped the singles “Home,” “Black America Again,” “Letter to the Free,” “Pyramids" and “Love Star.”

The track “Letter to the Free” was featured in Ava Duvernay‘s Netflix documentary 13th, a relationship that continues with Common's latest — a beautifully shot and powerful short film that was produced by Duvernay. The short film, which is titled after Common's album Black America Again, was directed by Selma’s lead cinematographer Bradford Young.

It runs around twenty minutes long and is shot in black and white. The stunningly moving visuals feature a stand out scene in which Common, with the help of a percussionist, raps the title track.

A few weeks back Common released a markedly shorter video for the Stevie Wonder assisted title track. Watch that here. Check out Common's short film Black America Again via YouTube below and scroll down to stream Common's latest album Black America Again.
