Watch Kendrick Lamar, Jidenna + Janelle Monáe Celebrate The Fourth Of July At The White House
For the last time in President Barack Obama‘s administration, he will be entertaining guests at the White House for America’s Independence Day. We already reported that Kendrick Lamar, Janelle Monáe and Jidenna would have the rare honor of performing live for the First Family… but now we have the full video for you to check out!
If you missed the live stream that was going on a few hours ago, the White House has been super kind enough to make the video embeddable + re-playable. Obama and Cornrow Kenny have become super chummy since surprising the game with his appearance alongside the first black president. The Compton, California super MC with Janelle Monáe and Jidenna performed for distinguished guests, selected family and military heroes and their families, according to Politico.
As we combed through the video, all the hits from “B***h, Don’t Kill My Vibe” to “Electric Lady” were present and accounted for. Even Obama’s favorite song of 2015, “How Much A Dollar Cost” held the crowd in rapture. While you were out at your BBQ and posting up for the fireworks, the White House was cracking and abuzz for the Fourth of July in a truly new, millennial way. All in all, this was a memorable show and a defining moment for the Obama Administration in spotlighting the talent of the future.
This continuance of Lamar’s journey from his TDE visit to his “Pay It Forward” promotional video to his growing mentorship in hoods across America.
