Modern experimental pop icon Grimes brought out none other than R&B star Janelle Monae during her performance in Atlanta on Wednesday night for an exhilarating live take on the pair's new collaboration cut "Venus Fly".
Taken from Grimes's excellent new Art Angels LP, the song is a wooly dancefloor banger with lyrics that clench the male gaze with iron-wrought claws and thrusts it aside, "Why you looking at me again?" Monae demands on the record. "What if I pulled my teeth? / Cut my hair underneath my chin / Wrapped my curls all around the world / Throw my pearls all across the floor." From there, Grimes takes care of business, blasting away relentlessly in her glycerine croon.
This is exactly the kind of pop song the world could use right now, and the more you think about it, the more Grimes and Janelle become a perfect match.
