For his last song at a recent showcase at Rubber Trax studio here in NY, Ryan Leslie went a little bit arena rock on the assembled crowd, debuting a soaring, guitar-driven (shredding! even) jam called “Breathe” from his forthcoming Les is More LP and then slamming his keyboard down on the finale in a (still pretty responsible) nod to the instrument destruction popularized by rock-gods like The Who. Pretty big chords for some model-chick-in-the-hotel talk but if you are gonna rap like you a rock-star–might as well shred like you a rock star and Les definitely brings the charisma on this joint.

It’d be better if he never said he attended Harvard. His lyrics too often come across overly self-indulgent and in an age when that modus operandi is considered stat-quo, he is still over baked.

I am a huge Ryan Leslie fan but I don’t know if I want to really hear him rhyming. He should stick to singing in my personal opinion!
