Even if you haven’t discovered Maya Azucena yet, you may still recognize the name from her collaborations with luminaries like Stephen Marley, Vernon Reid and Lupe Fiasco. Which sounds like name-dropping but will actually give you a pretty good idea what her music is about–ie it is about something. The title track from her new LP “Cry Love” makes a great introduction to her powerful voice and the video (which we are proud to premiere for you here) is a musical reflection of her real life humanitarian efforts here in Brooklyn in support of domestic abuse victims and disadvantaged youth. Don’t go thinking this is some ol’ shoot-yourself-in-the-head PSA, though. As our own Candace L. put it, Maya is “addicted to positivity.” Now you’re ready to discover the rest of her music…
