As far as hip-hop goes, I’d say a collabo with The Roots and Odd Future is just about as unlikely a scenario as I can think of. But there in lies the beauty of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Last night Odd Future members Tyler, The Creator and Hodgy Beats made their television debut as the musical guests on Fallon and performed their song “Sandwitches” with The Roots crew backing them. Since I got put on last summer, I gotta say I’m a big fan of Tyler, but with the content of his and Odd Future’s music it’s not something you’ll see on OKP too often (check some of their doper ish out). However you feel about these dudes, it’s had to deny that they put on a pretty exciting performance right here. lol @ everyone’s “wtf just happened expression” at the end… swag.

don’t why this is an unlikely pairing?? aren’t they both progressive hip-hop acts??

Yes they are both progressive acts. Folks wont get it. It’s Hip-Hop period…i suggest a closer listen. They on Coachella and made it to Jimmy Fallon…they’re hustlin more than ya “favorite rapper”. And how old are they?

It’s an unlikely pairing because The Roots make mature sophisticated music and Wolf Gang makes cartoonish straight edge teen-angst shit.

I’ve been listening to these cats (mainly Tyler & Earl) for a lil bit now. I heard about the crew via Pitchfork oddly enough. I’m way too addicted to the ‘Yonkers’ video and always play it before class (while in class) as inspiration to get me in the mood for Graphic Design projects. Let’s just say, I’m a BIG supporter of Odd Future and haven’t been excited for anything in Hip-Hop in a loooonnnnng while now! This performance was simply amazing! It’s crazy how deft these young cats from my home-town (Los Angeles) are with their lyrics. Genius!!!

How is Odd Future progressive? Definitely in a “taking it on some other shit” level, but Not as in politically progressive. Rape that, Faggots this blah blah blah. Tyler’s a creative ass talented kid, but his content is 3rd grade level.

@ who cares. Agreed. The talent is there but the artistic vision beyond shock appeal is not.
