Lauryn Hill speaks on making her classic album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill–which she will of course be performing in it’s entirety on the Rock The Bells tour as it makes its way from coast to coast. Which makes this Reebok Classics-branded vid sort of a sequel to the clip we posted the other day of her RTB-stagemate Nas speaking on Illmatic. Forget all your crazy-talk, Ms. Hill has a commanding presence that is distinctly Oprah-like on here–and sometimes sounds more like a media studies professor dissecting herself in the third person than a rapper (did she really use the word continuum to describe “Doo-Wop“?). Rumors of her miseducation may have been exaggerated.

    I don’t care… One album? I don’t care sorry.

One album that is a CLASSIC….some could produce albums all their lives and never achieve classic status. Maybe she would get your respect if she had a 10 week number one hit on 106 & Park twice a year. Miseducation will be played when other songs are long forgotten. All from, yes…one album.

im far, far from somebody who screams out how she’s one of the best ever, blah blah, but…..do you guys not count the stuff with the fugees as part of her legacy? she definitely cemented her spot in history with more than just one album

w/o L Boogie there is no Erykah really, or at least a space for E Badu to be herself. L Boogie carved that out for us, and she did it beautifully. Plus with Posner at the helm, MELH can be played for your moms and future great grandchillins. and btw new music is great, but a classic is.

Djcross she is living off of the album….appearently its what people pay to hear at her live shows, and have been doing so for years now. And L-Boogie and Badu are parallel, they would exist if they other never made it rcd2. Joi and Chaka are the ones who encoraged Badu to be herself…not L.

I was speaking as a place for us and the market honestly, not on Badu herself

I’m late but I agree with the okayplayer haters on this one. No diss but she’s washed up at this point. Great artist but she has missed her time. I don’t think at this point she could even deal with the pressure to do a follow up album. She’s in a space similar to Dr. Dre but the difference is she’s been away from music completely…
