Considering he is one rap’s most influential figures ever, KRS-One‘s output has been hit or miss over the last few years, mostly just because releases have been few and far between. This new video feels like he is right back where he should always be, though: insightful, funny and raw in the b-boy sense. The big boom-bap drums it comes in on (laid down by longtime homey and weed mogul Mad Lion) don’t hurt, though they are pretty quickly augmented by soulful horns that add a little bit of back-in-the-day wistfulness to the story as KRS runs down his own ‘it was all a dream’ resume. A full-length LP also called Just Like That will apparently be dropping on Mad Lion’s Killahpride label in early 2012 so keep your brain peeled for that.

KRS should consider writing an educational curriculum for school districts. But as far as this goes I’m not feeling this one. KRS is the best ever imo but the downfall as of late has always been production…

Classic Hip Hop performed by one of the masters. The track grew on me. I like it. Typical KRS 1 “listen and learn”

It’s like this, KRS is an institution. This is the essence of a culture, preserved. The flows, the beat, the message is right on point. KRS is the first real Master Teacher of Hip Hop, and with this record, he solidifies that truth even more. Salute.
