If this sounds like warped R&B, “Hornet’s Nest” sounds like Jamiroquai played backwards and then chopped into a Dilla-ish beat. With Jonti’s weird-white guy vocals on top. I have to admit, when I saw his portrait suspended in this rainbow tie-dyed watercolor mess, I was tempted to go Big Ghost on this shit. (“Shit sounds like n**gas doin aerobics on a magical cloud of daisies”) But the music is good (nah mean?) and this video for “Firework Spraying Moon” (above) even got me open on all the iridescent bubbles and paint-splashy oil-on-water visual effects.
