John Legend and The Roots created their very own intricate, noodly souljazz variation on “Dancing In The Dark” for Springsteen week on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night, established or re-established a few important insights: 1) Baddest band in late night. 2) For someone with such an instantly recognizable voice, John Legend is a great interpreter of other people’s songs, making clear that 3) “Dancing in the Dark” is a pretty amazing-ly written song, even to a not-particularly-a-(Bruce Springsteen)-fan such as myself (I obviously don’t know much about boxing either. I am American, though, I swear). The only thing that would make this better is if, say, Tiara Thomas added her interpretation of a young Courtney Cox getting pulled up out of the crowd.

This is almost better than the original. They completely transformed this song into another masterpiece.
