I guess I’m a sucker cause just like they probably planned it, I got so distracted by all the Fox News dumbness surrounding Common‘s invitation that I forgot to focus on the fact that our girl Jill Scott also did her thing. Jill painted the White House not just black but pink, too, reading her poem “Womanifesto” which is also a track on her forthcoming LP Light of the Sun (still dropping late June). When you think about it, what with the two of them representing back to back it was like an OKP delegation up in there. At the damn White House! I’m kind of surprised Michelle Obama wasn’t wearing a ‘Dilla Changed My Life’ t-shirt.

“not thick just from bone dense and eat, there is a rhythm in my ways and a practice in my seek”… i feel that in this sentence ms scott encompasses transcending cultural practices and ancestral ties that have all been carried as well as reshaped by women. i like how much meaning just one line of her poems can contain. much love
