As we reported recently Janelle Monáe was included on a pretty amazing line-up for this year’s Nobel Peace Concert in Oslo (also on the bill: Jill Scott, Angelique Kidjo and Liberian singer Miatta Fahnbulleh). The stand out selection was “Cold War” (above) which she prefaced with the following words:

There was once a time when I didn’t feel empowered as a young African-American woman. So I wrote this song so that you, no matter what your color is, all women and young girls can find their power

But she also put down renditions of “Tightrope” (below) and the Jackson 5‘s “I Want You Back.” Still looking for video of the grand finale featuring Janelle, Jill and the whole crew covering Curtis Mayfield‘s “Move On Up”–but also fearful my head might explode if i find it. Got to wonder if that’s what Alfred Nobel envisioned when he started this whole thing by inventing Dyn-o-mite!
