I don’t know if Cole World is going to propel J. Cole to the upper echelons of the rap universe in terms of sales but he is definitely gaining on Lupe Fiasco for the title of Most Fanatical Stans–and as we know from watching the Fiasco major label fiasco unfold (and then right itself) that smacks of longevity in the music biz, whether CW hits #1–as people are predicting–or not. 106 & Park has been a big part of that phenomenon so it’s no surprise he blessed them with a live appearance at his big moment–or that they ran a whole montage of the medium moments that lead up to it. Weird to have a retrospective for a freshman artist, but it has been quite a journey. In case you didn’t read our shopper’s guide for 9/27…or our wallpaper…or the internet in general…Cole World came out yesterday. Get it here.

This album is mediocre at best. Call a spade a spade…. I felt it coming with the lead up to it. I understand why but recognize the only way you bring hip hop back is to take a stance. I hope Jay Electronica can do that but it’s hard to resist the riches and fame for respect…..
