Vic Mensa Cancels Performance After Venue Tweets "#fuckblacklivesmatter"

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Vic Mensa, the 23 year-old Chicago Rapper and Roc Nation signee, was set to perform at the Detroit venue Populux with Joey Purp on July 29th. The venue is housed in the historic Majestic Theatre Center and Complex on Woodward Avenue. It doesn't look like that performance is going to happen. Earlier today, the venue tweeted:

#blameobama

all you libtards caused these deaths

#dallasshooting

#fuckblacklivesmatter

Put some Respek on it.

Not a good look to whoever is running Populux's twitter account. Not a good look at all. Vic Mensa, very reasonably, decided against performing at the venue. Vic hasn't been one to mince his views in music or real life. About a week ago, he discussed Justin Timberlake and cultural appropriation with Larry Wilmore on The Nightly Show. Watch the video of the exchange here.

Other artists have followed suit. The manager of Bay Area rapper G-Eazy, Jamil Davis, tweeted that he was going to, "Reach out to all my colleagues to pull their shows from there also." Populux is claiming that the tweets were unauthorized and filed a complaint with the FBI. Populux's Twitter account has since been deleted and the venue itself has shuttered its doors.
