What the hell kinda office holiday party features Tunde Adebimpe of TV On The Radio covering Clarence Carter‘s fuckaround Christmas classic “Backdoor Santa” in full Claus regalia? Our kind. More specifically, our party, the Okayplayer Holiday Jam. Tunde’s inspired performance is yet more proof that the Holiday jam is the gift that keeps on giving (doh belee me, juh watch Q-Tip, Talib Kweli & The Roots do “Electric Relaxation” here and Jennah Bell‘s jazzy-ass cover of Notorious B.I.G. -“Big Poppa” here). As with many moments of comic0-musical genius the best/funniest thing about the performance (besides James Poyser tinkling away on the southern fried organ vamps) is how serious Tunde’s vocal is when he goes into full soulman mode. His look–zebra-striped Santa hat, Larry Graham wig, Bootsy Glasses and dookie gold chain (the beard is all his, though)–is pretty amazing, too, though. Is it just me or does this outfit make him look a lot like 2Chainz?
