Tracy Morgan Stages A '30 Rock' Reunion On His Triumphant Return To SNL

Still in the midst of recovery from a terrifying and near-fatal 2014 auto accident, Tracy Morgan took command of his comedic powers and returned to Saturday Night Live as host last night. And it's safe to say that we, like many others, were somewhat nervous: how would it go? Would Morgan fall back into his familiar, slightly-dazed-and-confused brand of hilarity? Would we get a "Brian Fellows" reprise?

In the end, it was so much more than that. "People were wondering: Can he speak? Does he have 100 percent mental capacity?" Morgan admitted early in the show, upping the tension a bit only to air it all out.“But the truth is, I never did. I might actually be a few points higher now.” Self-depricating and sly, this was the Tracy we've always loved. Rest at ease--the man is back.

Morgan's SNL episode--the third episode in the show's 2015 season, featured old familiar characters including Astronaut Jones, Woodrow the Homeless man and, yes, Brian Fellows. In an opening segment, Larry David made his own landmark return to the program by playing Bernie Sanders in a hilarious send-up, and later Morgan's 30 Rock castmates Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, Jane Krakowski, and Jack McBrayer all joined in in the fun. We couldn't possibly have asked for more.

But the show's true peak came in that opening monologue, when Morgan looked straight into the eyes of audience and admitted that his accident “was awful, but it also showed me how much love and support I have in this world.”

“I’m so lucky I have my comedy family,” the man continued. “When this happened, I knew they would all be there to support me.” They were, and in the truest way.
