Tracy Morgan and The Roots cover El DeBarge

Nothing says romance like Tracy Morgan and The Roots covering El DeBarge. The living genius of black comedy (hell, all comedy) crooning away on a note-perfect rendition of “All This Love” is like a forest-full of mistletoe suspended over the head of Sade‘s younger self. In a Santa hat and red nightie. File this next to DMX singing “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer” in the drawer marked Things You Thought Would Be Amazing In An Ironic Way But That Turn Out To Be Just Amazing. After you get over the initial shock of what’s happening to you, the only thing you can really say is, Damn he kinda killed it. I do have to add one note of criticism–or rather, factual correction, though. In regards to Tracy’s assertion in the set-up that covering El DeBarge “has never been done in the history of music. Cover El DeBarge? That’s career suicide…” I have just received a memo from Jamaica. It says here, and I quote: “bad gyal nuh inna dat ‘career suicide’ rae-rae. ” Foxy Brown called and she wants her vocal stylings back (not to mention her watch).
