Oakland’s The Coup have long been a benchmark for politically motivated, ideologically firm and musically defiant hip-hop. On October 30, the group is going to release their first LP in six years, entitled Sorry to Bother You. With featured artists as diverse as Das Racist, Anti-Flag, Killer Mike and Jolie Holland and The Coup’s track record for pushing limits of all sorts, you know you’re in for one of the most ambitious and enticing projects of 2012. The first spoonful of medicine we get to taste is the album’s opener, “Magic Clap.” Blurring the lines between punk, Motown and hip-hop, Boots Riley and DJ Pam the Funktress pull us right into their revolutionary manifesto of protest music. Listen to the track below and cop it over at iTunes.
