Teddy Riley On Working With Michael Jackson

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Teddy Riley sat for what can only be described as a priceless conversation about Michael Jackson and the experience of producing groundbreaking work with the King of Pop on BBC1Xtra. Speaking candidly with DJ Ace (of Ace & Vis), Riley breaks down his first phone conversation with Michael Jackson - a moment that even spooked his manager, who was skeptical that Jackson was truly making an attempt to get in touch with him. Teddy Riley talks about procuring production space from Q-Tip in order to prepare for his first meeting with Jackson and how the company of longtime friend Salli Richardson inspired many of the songs that would go on to become hits on his 1991 Dangerous LP - a project that would net Teddy Riley a Grammy. More than the award, the experience of living and working with Michael Jackson during the production process sounds like solid gold. Teddy Riley even drops a glowing endorsement of Michael's cool and reveals that he referred to him as Midas. Check the footage below to watch the full interview.
