Talib Kweli recently returned to the studios at Shade 45 to drop another handful of gems on Sway In The Morning. This go-round, he discussed independent releases – Gravitas included – and the trouble with streaming media; he argues that streaming platforms can essentially screw artists by encouraging consumers to avoid purchasing projects indefinitely – a move that subsequently helps to devalue the art that they work hard to produce. Kweli also fielded some calls from fans, discussed his growth as a songwriter and commented on Chris Brown‘s recent bi-polar diagnosis during Tracy G‘s Celebrity Wire segment.
Kweli’s visit to SiriusXM‘s Manhattan studio preceded an Okayplayer stop-through today with international phenom and champion of the decks, DJ Just Dizle. The show featured no shortage of wise-cracks as the crew talked shop, fielded calls and argued the effects of joking about controversial topics with comedian Chelsea Handler during an in-studio interview. DJ Just Dizle spun a heavy instrumental set during the breaks that proved the celebrated golden era producers will always have the glow.
