Talib Kweli recently stopped by Hot 97 to chop it up with Peter Rosenberg and Cipha Sounds on the Juan Epstein Show ahead of the NY Loves Dilla party, which jumps off this Sunday, March 23rd in Manhattan at Webster Hall. Kweli is headlining the event, which is set to include a few surprises for fans of the late-great Grammy Award-winning beatsmith James “J Dilla” Yancey. The massive celebration of the legendary Detroit producer includes a who’s who of New York’s thriving hip-hop scene with appearances from Tanya Morgan, 88-Keys, Nemo Achida, Soul Khan, Phony Ppl, YC the Cynic and more. The event is hosted by Dilla’s mother, Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey and Jarobi of A Tribe Called Quest with DJ Parler in the house spinning all Dilla, all night. The upcoming NY Loves Dilla celebration is the first annual officially sanctioned Dilla tribute show in New York City. All proceeds from the event will benefit the J Dilla Foundation. Doors open at 6:30 PM on Sunday. The show begins promptly at 8. Purchase tickets for NY Loves Dilla at websterhall.com. Learn more about the J Dilla Foundation via jdillafoundation.org.
