Talib Kweli Stands In Solidarity w/ Mumia Abu-Jamal Whose Health Deteriorates In PA Prison

Talib Kweli speaks on fundraising for Ferguson, the continuing struggle + the Justice Dept's role in change

Talib Kweli has long stood in defense of Mumia Abu-Jamal during the former activist's 30-year battle with every level of court in the aftermath of a Philadelphia police officer's murder in 1981. Though he's no longer on death row, Abu-Jamal has been suffering from complications with his health that have risen from a chronic neglect by the prison system. It's been reported that Abu-Jamal has been transferred to Schuylkill Medical Center in Pottsville to be treated for complications with diabetes. The following words were posted to the BK MC's Tumblr page from The Campaign To Bring Mumia Home, making a plea for public awareness, aid and mobility as his family and friends continue to be staved off from visiting.

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Heidi Elizabeth Boghosian and I travelled to Frackville, PA to visit Mumia today because we knew that he was not well. When we arrived we were told that he was hospitalized. We did a little reconnaissance and were able to get into the unit where he is being held, but were not let in to see him to see him. We were within 10 feet, spoke to his nurses, and delivered a note saying that we are here. Unclear that he will get it. Four uniformed guards are outside his room. Mumia has been sick for months. He landed in the hospital because he did not get the proper care. We were just asked to vacate the building. It’s time to mobilize to defend Mumia’s life. Please call the medical center at 570-773-2158 and the Superintendent at SCI Mahanoy, John Kerestes 570-773—2158 x 18102.

Thank You,

The Campaign To Bring Mumia Home
