I think some people might want to go back to this post right here and rethink that download you may have failed to make. Above is Colin Munroe's video "Piano Lessons" featuring Joell Ortiz (Black Milk on the production) off of his recently released Colin Munroe Is The Unsung Hero mixtape. In my opinion, this song is second in quality only to "Cannon Ball" off that project. Story has it, Colin is back in the studio putting more of that hip-hop spin on his debut album, out later this year.
For years Toronto has been slept on as one of the main sources of quality Hip-Hop. Little did I know I'd been sleepin' on some heads from up North as well. Spotted over at 2db is T-Dot representative Tona and his song "Got Milk" featuring Promise over some Black Milk production (I'll admit that's what got my attention). Tona's Direct Deposit EP will be out in March.
Black Milk and Elzhi were the featured performers at the Seattle stop of the Red Bull Big Tune Beat Battle back in September. Courtesy of DJ Hyphen, here's a video of the two MC's from The D going through some of their hits. OKP got word that a new Slum Village album is in the works and that Batin is back in the group! More on that later.
Out Da Box TV comes through with their latest episode, and this one featuring Black Milk. We give this dude a lot of shine on OKP but it's well deserved. In this episode Milk speaks on a range of topics like the theme behind his new album Tronic, the ways in which J Dilla influenced him, and also the comparisons to the late great Dilla.
More Black Milk for your Thursday. Fat Beats hit OKP with the World Premiere video for "Give The Drummer Sum," the lead single off Milk's latest album, Tronic. This song really sets the tone of the whole album for me, so it was definitely a good look to make it the first video.
A few weeks ago at Southpaw in Brooklyn NY, Black Milk held his album release party. In this Vimby video from the night Milk speaks about his new record, Tronic. Other performers from the night including Skyzoo, Torae, Folk&Stress, and U-N-I, also speak about Milk and his contributions to the game (I see a Shamz cameo in there too). Tronic is in stores now. Check back with OKP for our exclusive interview with Black Milk next week.
October 24th, to close out a night that featured Diz Gibran, Folk&Stress, U-N-I, and DJ Revolution, Black Milk took the stage with Pharoahe Monch during what was one of the last events at this year's CMJ. It was my first time seeing Milk perform live and as a big fan of his music, he definitely did not disappoint. In the above clip Black Milk brings out Monch to perform their song "The Matrix" (sans Sean P who is also on the track) off of Milk's Tronic album, in stores now. After that, Monch performs his Black Milk produced song "Let's Go" off of his last album, Desire.
We really should have found a way to mention that Black Milk's album,Tronic, hit shelves yesterday. After one listen, Tronic is already on my top albums of the year list. Luckily the homie Sweeney put together this mix that gives us a reason to mention Milk again today, as well as a few other MC's with albums out now or coming out soon. The mix features Black Milk, Elzhi, Madvillain, Flying Lotus, Pharcyde, Exile, and more. So download CDRADIO TWO, and be sure to check for these artists' respective albums when they drop.
I've got to say Black Milk has really stepped up his spit game tremendously, while still maintaining his spot as one of the nicer producers out there. Don't believe me? Check the latest leak "Losing Out" featuring Royce Da 5'9" off of his upcoming LP, Tronic. Royce, as always (in my opinion), blacks out on this one. Shout out to FWMJ for the heads up.
Everyone (myself included) went nutzo for that Black Milktrack we premiered featuring Monch, Sean P, and Premo two weeks ago. So here's some more from the man Black Milk to hold y'all down untill October 28th when his LP Tronic drops. The mixtape, Elec (presented by Fat Beats & HHDX), is a compilation of his work from his last LP, Popular Demand , up untill now. As tight as Popular Demand was, this dude is showing a lot of growth on the new album. Follow me after the jump for the tracklist and dl link for Elec.
