The latest edition of Black Milk's Broadcast takes on a different spin as he honors his long time friend, and fellow Detroit representative, Titus "Baatin" Glover. "Baatin was the first to discover Black's production talent nearly a decade ago, and they'd been tight ever since. On July 20--less than two weeks before Baatin's death--the reunited Slum Village filmed a video for a new track from their forthcoming album, Slum Manifesto. Black Milk Broadcast reveals some exclusive footage from the video shoot."
We saw the news this morning via Dwele 's twitter page that Baatin of Slum Village has passed. Those following the group's story remember that Baatin has been battling health issues for some time and even fell into a comma for a spell a few years ago. It was music to our ears when it was announced Baatin was back on his feet, would reunite with SV, tour the country on Rock The Bells, and that the group would release a new album, Villa Manifesto, later this year. Another sad day for hip hop, another said day for Detroit. It was an honor to have Slum Village on the original Okayplayer Tour in 2000 and around here, their album Fantastic Vol II is regarded as one of the best of all time. Our regards go out to the family and friends of Baatin, T3, Elzhi, Phat Kat, Slum Village massive (so many heads to name), the city of Detroit, and the hip hop community who has lost yet another.
