Spike Lee Responds To 'Chi-Raq' Critics, Offers New Clips From The Film
It may seem a little preemptive, but following the release of the official trailer for the new Spike Lee joint Chi-Raq, the film was bashed by the city in question (Chicago) for seemingly making light of the senseless violence that has claimed so many lives over the years. Never one to have his work dismantled before any eyes actually fall upon it, Spike has taken to the internets to clarify the film's structure, purpose and handling in an intimate clip with a heartfelt response to the film's already contentious reception. Here Spike clarifies that the film is satirical, not necessarily comedy, though the trailer highlights some of its more lighthearted moments, which could easily be misinterpreted as jest instead of focused cultural commentary. This writer will hold off on actually putting his two cents into the pot until a proper viewing is had, but along with Spike's plea for more eyes and less mouths, he's offered a few clips of the film's heavier, more hard-hitting moments, which were probably omitted from the trailer to showcase the film's star-power.
