Chi-raq, the new feature film from iconic director Spike Lee, has finally been given an official release date. On December 4th, 2015, the world will get its long-awaited first taste of the musical dramady, which of course will be set in the Windy City and feature a star-studded cast including Dave Chappelle, Wesley Snipes, Common, Jennifer Hudson and the ever-excellent Samuel L. Jackson.

Deadline has confirmed that Amazon Studios plans to theatrically release Chi-raq in early December across major cities in the U.S., and both Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate have become attached as well.

For Spike Lee fans in need of a quick refresher, Chiraq is loosly based off of the Greek comedy Lysistrata and is set in the South Side of Chicago, in some of the city's most dangerous neighborhoods. Gang clashes and crooked policing are crucial elements of the film, which appears to be perfectly time as a chronicle of 21st century urban strife, violence and oppression. This will be Amazon's first feature film released exclusively in theaters, and Deadline has stressed that it's still unclear whether or not the shopping and streaming mega-business will put Chi-raq up for viewing on its own digital platforms. For now, let the marketing blitz begin.
