Soundcloud Claims To Have Paid Over $1M To Artists And Labels Since August

Since Soundcloud opened its doors in August 2014 to autoplay ads and brand-sponsored tracks, the streaming audio service has paid over $1 million to artists, labels and partners, the company announced today. Much of that kickback sum has also been made possible by its Premier Partner On Soundcloud service, which allows uploaders to opt into having advertisements play amongst their tracks in exchange for financial compensation.

The news may come as a surprise to those who recall Soundcloud's posted losses of $29 million in 2013, but a company blog post announcing the revenue sharing practically shone with positive energy. All told over 100 premier partners have joined Soundcloud since August, and in that same time period labels, artists, and what the company refers to as "audio partners" (corporate brands?) have banked over $1 million. "SoundCloud offers an entirely new monetization channel for top and emerging talent," the post asserts.
