Principal lead singer of The Spinners, Robert "Bobbie" Smith has died at age 76. The singer died on Monday of complications from influenza and pneumonia following a recent cancer diagnosis in November 2012. Smith formed The Spinners in high school with Bill Henderson, Pervis Jackson and Henry Fambrough. Smith sang lead on The Spinners' 1976 single "That's What Girls Are Made For" - one of several hits from the group that cites gold records and Grammy nominations amongst its accomplishments. Smith fought through illness to give one last electrifying show in February during a Soul Train Cruise - singing despite having been scheduled to sit out the performance due to weakness. Funeral services for Smith will be held next Monday in Detroit.
