Audio Premiere: Extra Medium - "Know Thyself" f/ Miles Bonny & John Robinson

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Okayplayer is proud to introduce 2-man production supergroup Extra Medium. Dedicated heads may already be familiar with Extra Med's consituent parts from their individual contributions to the science of beats--namely, the DJ selections and remix work of the homie Sam Champ on the one hand and the releases of producer (and 1/3 of E.L.Q.) Buscrates16-Bit Ensemble on the other. For Extra Medium the two have joined forces in the names of knocking drums and soulful vibes. Judging by this exclusive OKP track and the preview clips, their self-titled EP on Philly's Record Breakin' Music--including guests Miles Bonny, John Robinson, Fresh Daily, Nicholas Ryan Gant, and Zaki Ibrahim -is gonna, ahem, fit just right.

The premise of the project is that they sampled and chopped one record to death to create the foundation for all of the tracks. A pretty ill concept that only true record nerds would conceive of, let alone do justice to. The hook, of course, is we can't tell you what the source record is. If you know, you just know--ya know? (but feel free to speculate and/or spoil the mystery for everybody else in the comments section). Stream "Know Thyself" and hit the appropriate links to pre-order the iTunes version (drops April 29th) and a limited edition 10" vinyl EP exclusively from Record Breakin' (remember, every day is Record Store Day). Then scroll down to watch the EPK and get more clues to the musical mystery (not to mention ringing endorsements from Extra Medium fans DJ Spinna, J. Period and Anthony Valadez). Turns out it's an Extra Medium world after all.
