Jhené Aiko Talks West Coast Music + Parenthood With Snoop Dogg On GGN

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

If you're not keeping up Snoop Dogg's GGN, you need to be sure and correct your steering. The MC's fake but then again all too real online news program has been a staging ground for some of the best hip-hop interviews in recent memory (we're partial to the Kool-Aid Man's appearance.) Yesterday the program's lead host/Doggfather brought on R&B luminary Jhené Aiko for what became possibly its most informative, reverent and downright decent episode yet. Snoop admitted to being put on to Ms. Aiko's smash single "The Worst" by his wife and daughter, and is visibly impressed to hear that it was nominated for a Grammy (2015's Best Rap/Sung Collaboration). The two reminisce about their shared hometown of LA and discuss what "West Coast" music really represents and things hit a heavy note when Aiko reveals that her brother's losing battle with cancer changed her viewpoint on medicinal marijuana.

Aiko also admits that she has some anxiety over growing her acting career and appearing on more and more shining screens across the globe. "I'm part Native American, so I believe them when they say the camera steals your soul," she says. "A picture does something, and I feel we're in a day and age when people are constantly in front of the camera." She is, however, incredibly comfortable on multi-colored GGN set, ultimately forcing to Snoop to go beyond his usual kick-backed vibe and ask some serious questions that draw out serious answers. Watch the entire clip below and, when you're finished, check out both Jhené live and Snoop in our Roots Picnic 2014 recap.
