Sharon Jones Dap Kings Holiday Album
Get ready to trim trees and stuff stockings in an extra-funky fashion: Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings have announced a brand new holiday-themed album, filled with uptempo soul takes on classic carols and hymns, along with brand new compositions.
The news comes only a day after word that Jones will be the subject of a new feature-length documentary film and seems to confirm a whole new phase of activity from the Daptone Records camp. It’s a Holiday Soul Party will be released on October 30th. "It's so great to put out a holiday record after almost twenty years, and it is thrilling to share a Hanukkah soul song," Jones, told Billboard, who officially announced the record Wednesday. "I was able to portray my gospel upbringing on the piano, and the Dap-Kings added their soulful flavor to old classics and a few original songs."
Because it's never too soon to start your year-end shopping, fans can already pre-order It's A Holiday Soul Party on iTunes. Those who do will be able to immediately download two album tracks, "Big Bulbs" and “Ain’t No Chimneys in the Projects." Check out the record's full tracklisting below.
