Sharon Jones Was Singing Till The End, Says Dap Kings' Gabriel Roth
Sharon Jones & the almighty Dap-Kings crew have resurfaced from their brief hiatus with a cutting new joint for the funk freaks out there. Today, Jones and her electric ensemble premiered "Little Boy With Shiny Toys" with Billboard, turning the page to the next chapter of their distinctive and distilled funk&soul cannon, lacing the groove with bouncy horn arrangements and a pocket so deep, you could fall in. It's a warm and welcome return for the soaring vocalist and her brigade, who lit up The Apollo Theater with the whole Daptone Records roster early last month, which was a soul-strutting treat for all in attendance.
The year has also been particularly kind to the group, as they finally got a well-earned Grammy nod for their blazing 2014 release Give The People What They Want, boasting hard-nosed funk akin to The JBs or The Meters with Daptone's Brooklyn soul polish. We'll likely have to wait a bit for another full-length, but there's plenty to hold you over, if you're looking for a fix.
