Russell Simmons Disputes Rape Charges: “I Would Never Hurt Anybody”
TMZ recently caught up with hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons who responded to rape allegations by saying he has never been a violent person.
Russell Simmons made a brief, yet impactful return to the public eye as TMZ recently spoke with the Def Jam founder in West Hollywood. During the chat, Simmons address the multiple allegations of sexual assault made against him in 2017. “It’s really good to get away and get outside the bubble,” he declared to the gossip website. Getting away meant a trip to Bali, but when TMZ asked the hip-hop mogul if he thought he would be vindicated in the face of rape accusations, Simmons became more somber and disputed the charges.
“I don’t have a stitch of violence in me,” he said to TMZ. “I would never hurt anybody. And I never had any violence in me. It is a difficult time for everybody.” Upon concluding his statement, Simmons hopped into his car, shared a kiss with a woman in the passenger seat and drove off. Simmons statement follows a tumultuous 2017 where he (among others in the entertainment industry) were accused of sexual assault. After being accused of allegedly sexually assaulting a 17-year-old model in 1991, over a dozen women came forward with accusations of rape and varying degrees of sexual misconduct against the hip-hop icon.
One of the alleged rape victims is suing Simmons for $5 million.
