The Faces Of Roots Picnic 2016: Backstage Portraits By Shayan Asgharnia [Photo Gallery]

It has been a wild and crazy two weeks, Okayplayers. If you haven’t been following us on Twitter, we here at the HQ were gearing up for the 9th Annual Roots Picnic at Festival Pier in the City of Brotherly Love. The beautifully family-oriented event found Usher with The Roots crew, Future and Leon Bridges rocking throughout the day, while Kaytranada, Metro Boomin’ and Everyday People party had bodies swaying back and forth between three stages.

The three stages of amazing music pulled picnic-goers back and forth across the venue as one great act after another blessed us from all sides. Still, the backstage was the unofficial 4th stage where screaming Anderson .Paak fans trying to get their copy of Malibu signed (and a large contingent of other people) were trying to get to. Who wouldn’t, right? Roots Picnic is renowned as the major festival with a relaxed, family-style vibe and the vibes were doubled in the bus and dressing room area, where artists and their actual families mingled, cooled off and grabbed a bite to eat. As talent, friends, family and OKP staff enjoyed the harmonious atmosphere behind the South Stage, photographer extraordinaire Shayan Asgharnia was once again chronicling the beautiful people who passed in front of his lens in the classic, bold black and white portraits that have become his trademark. Capturing that Illadelphian spirit throughout the event, Shayan framed famous faces like Willow Smith to Lolawolf to Jidenna in a light of excellence.

We’ve yet to see a mis-fired shot from the Los Angeles-based portrait, editorial and advertising photographer. With this assortment of assembled talent bonding over good grooves, great food and fantastic memories — Shayan Asgharnia’s “Faces Of Roots Picnic” is jam-packed with another year’s worth of immortalized awesomeness. Whatever you do, don’t click through this gallery too fast… you just might miss something!
