Drummer Myele Manzanza Links With Mark De Clive-Lowe & Matt Dal Din To Serve Up A Stirring Rework Of Bobby Hutcherson's "Montara."

Drummer Myele Manzanza links with fellow Kiwi musicians Mark De Clive-Lowe and Matt Dal Din to serve up a stirring rework of Bobby Hutcherson's "Montara." Hitting as the Myele Manzanza Trio, the group delivers a slightly deconstructed rendition of the track driven by Manzanza's frenetic percussion and Mark De Clive-Lowe's lush riffs on the original melody - a ridiculously infectious theme that has been a constant source of inspiration for hip-hoppers and something of a primer for listeners wading through the widely celebrated vibraphonist's catalog for the first time. The track - recorded during the band's visit to Prague in March - follows the September release of Manzanza's debut LP One, which features appearances from Mark De Clive-Lowe, Rachel Fraser and Philly MC Charlie K. The band's vamping on "Montara" lends the arrangement an undeniable electricity that is only enhanced by the otherworldly effects studding the recording. Check the track below to listen to "Montara" from the Myele Manzanza Trio. Purchase the One LP via iTunes. Read an exclusive interview with Myele and get more on the album via REVIVE.
