Trombonist Ernest Stuart Preps Fans For The Release Of His Forthcoming 'Love/Loss' EP With An Exclusive Taste Of The Single "Big Mamma Jamma."

Trombonist Ernest Stuart preps fans for the July 22nd release of his forthcoming Love/Loss EP with a taste of what's to come in the form of "BMJ" aka Big Mamma Jamma - a bombastic track inspired by a character his mother assumed during his childhood. The song is a beastly stomp that combines the unctuous fish grease of body-moving second line brass with a bit of classic rock. The first peek at the project follows the completion of a roadtrip with globetrotting Brooklyn-Bhangra band Red Baraat. Love/Loss is the highly-anticipated follow-up to the Solitary Walker LP - Stuart's seminal 2011 debut. With this project he serves up a hybridized heater that prioritizes coloring outside of the lines as he fuses a host of influences with a sonic foundation cemented in the time-honored proving grounds of Philadelphia's jazz and soul scene. The EP is Stuart's first formal attempt to eschew genre in favor of playing all the way out. The result is a certified sidewinder of a release that is much more massive than the diminutive tracklisting could ever imply. Stuart explains the evolution of his sound and his hopes for the forthcoming release:

“I traveled extensively over the past four years (the time since my last recording) and I’ve grown up. Musically my palette has been blown wide open, allowing me to take in influences from more sources than ever. I now try to convey feelings and stories, musically, without being boxed-in by genre,”
