LargeUp Premiere: Stephen Marley x Busy Signal - "You And Me Attract"

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.Stephen Marley x Busy Signal "You & Me Attract"

Busy Signal is just about the most in-demand deejay in dancehall these days, doubly so since his riddim-stealing cameo on Major Lazer's "Watch Out For This (Bumaye)"--a track even dedicated Diplo-haters recognize is the tuffest thing happening in dancehall this year. I am not even going to play myself or you by explaining who Stephen Marley is but suffice to say the reggae scion is a foundational force in Jamaican music--hell, in music. So when the two collaborate on a track, expectations run unusually high. They did just that on the infatuation anthem "You And Me Attract." The pairing finds both artists in top form--but also willing to step outside their usual musical lanes. Reggae specialists LargeUp ahve the story--and the exclusive premiere!

Ahead of his upcoming third solo album Revelation Part II: The Fruit of Life (due out later this year), Stephen Marley recently dropped the single “Bongo Nyah” featuring Damian Marley and Spragga Benz on us, via an exclusive LargeUp premiere. And, now he’s got another high-profile collaboration in “You and Me Attract” with perennial LargeUp favorite, Busy Signal.

Is that a Kanye influence we hear on the track, Stephen? Kanye’s recent album Yeezus was notably influenced by reggae and dancehall, and it appears that the exchange is now working the other way, with Stephen incorporating some pieces of the 808s & Heartbreak Kanye feel into his reggae sound “You and Me Attract.” Stream below, and tell us if you’re thinking the same thing.
