Croll Mambazo Record Store Day
It's not everyday that you get to see Lady Black Mambazo doing indie rock. And it's equally rare for british singer-songwriter Dan Croll to feature in African choral music, but that's what Record Store Day is for, and now the artists' collaborative recordings are seeing a special RSD vinyl release featuring “Hello My Baby” on Side A with “Ever At Your Side” on Side B.
However, this limited edition record is more than just two snappy songs recorded by respected artists, more like the culmination of two globe-spanning careers. Croll-- after rocketing to indy fame with his 2012 debut single aptly named "From Nowhere"-- has spent the last two years defining his indie-tinged, expansive sound. That word-- expansive-- seems to be the only thing Croll has in common with Mambazo. Formed in 1960, the South African choir had more than 50 years to perfect their larger-than-life harmonies before they met with Croll last December to record "Hello My Baby." The warmth of Mambazo's verses perfectly compliment the fragility of Croll's voice. "Hello My Baby" is worth every penny. So, do it. Get up and go to your local record store if you are lucky enough to have one. Record Store Day may come by twice a year, but this collaboration won't.
