RBMA Illuminates The Work Of NYC's Sound System Guru In Episode 1 Of 'The Note'

RBMA (or Red Bull Music Academy) currently has all of NYC locked in its grip, curating some of the most eclectic programs the city's ever seen or heard before. They orchestrated a rare appearance from yeti of the rap game, Madlib, brought all of the stars into alignment for a night of truly cosmic jazz with Kamasi Washington, Pharoah Sanders and Sun Ra's Arkestra, but live and direct music-nerd merriments are but a component to this year's well-rounded RBMA New York installation.

To bring a bit of context to some of the sonic scenes and palettes RBMA is exploring, they've launched a new mini-doc series, aptly-titled The Note, beginning today with the first episode, which brings light to the work of Alex Rosner; the man responsible for the mid-seventies march towards a club sound system that was as clear as it was loud. The inaugural offering of The Note charts Rosner's path from studio engineer to mad sound scientist, designing the prototype for what is now a staple to any DJ's setup (the cross-fader) and reinventing the club sound as we know it. Over the weeks to come, RBMA will release three more episodes of The Note, each spotlighting another often overlooked pioneer. Get learned in the debut episode down below and hold tight for the next transmission.
