Raury Performs "Fly" + Discusses Systemic Racism On 'The Nightly Show'

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Atlanta Folk-n-B soothsayer Raury became The Nightly Show's first-ever musical guest Monday night, performing a sparse and moving acoustic rendition of "Fly" to the delight of host Larry Wilmore, the studio audience and fans the world over.

Raury also took part in one of the taping's early segment—a discussion on systemic racism and its persistence in all corners of American culture. "It goes all the way back to things like ‘The Lion King,’" the young bandleader said. "[W]here [Scar] is the black, bad guy…there’s always been these little things that set the innuendo."

Watch Raury's panel discussion segment over at Comedy Central's website, and enjoy the acoustic performance of "Fly" below. Raury will be touring much of the U.S. this fall, and so if you're lucky enough to live along his itinerary, be sure to catch him; you'll be thanking us.
