Prince The Hip-Hop Pioneer? Questlove's "40 Reasons" Say Its True.

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

One of the most visible translators and orchestrators in the realm of deep purple post-Prince tributes, Questlove returns with a carefully crafted defense of the iconic rocker, which posits that Prince might just be a hip-hop pioneer - a sentiment Quest first expressed in his Rolling Stone tribute. But how, Sway? Here's approximately 40 reasons that explain, as only Quest could in the span of an Instagram caption, exactly how it might be so. If you know nothing else going into this, you should know he makes a compelling argument:

18. Used his music to give his views on the po po, politicians, gun control, war, God, squares and “the man.”

19. Turned a long music video into a revolution.

20. Best drum machine programmer ever.
