Our first clue: Universal Music Group striking a deal with Prince’s estate that secures publishing rights and licensing representation from UMG’s branding arm, Bravado. The next one came some weeks later with purple Spotify ads lighting up subways and billboards in NYC and London. Now, The New York Post is reporting that a landing date has been announced. Turns out, we won’t be getting Prince’s music ahead of The Grammys, but on the very evening of the prestigious award show: Sunday, February 12th.
You read that correctly. Prince’s entire Warner Bros. Records catalog will land on Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play and Amazon Music just in time for you to see some of your favorite artists pay tribute, though precisely who will take part in the Grammy-night salute has yet to be revealed. There’s yet to be an official announcement, but if the signs are reading correctly, this one is just about guaranteed. Post also claims that the estate is working on getting non-WB and “vaulted” material (rumored to be in the thousands) to streaming platforms as well.
