Prince's First Wife To Write 'Intimate Memoir' About Their Marriage

Prince's first wife Mayte Garcia will be releasing an "intimate memoir" that'll chronicle her life and four year marriage to the recently deceased artist.

Titled The Most Beautiful, the book will focus on Garcia and Prince's relationship and subsequent marriage, which lasted from 1996 to 2000.

The two were introduced backstage at a Prince show in 1990, when Garcia was just 16. An accomplished dancer, she caught the iconic artist's attention after her mother sent a video of her belly dancing to the musician in the hope he might hire her.

They stayed in touch and Garcia ultimately joined his touring band two years later. On Valentine's Day in 1996 they got married, sharing their wedding vows as white doves were released. Garcia became pregnant almost once, but their son Boy Gregory died just a week after birth because of Pfeiffer syndrome, a rare defect of the skull.

The loss of Gregory, as well as miscarriage that occurred not long afterwards, led to the grieving couple divorcing in 2000.

"Prince was loved the world over but few knew him intimately," Garcia said in a statement. "And ours was a rare, almost otherworldly connection. I want to share our love story, and with it the highs and lows – always coming from a loving place, as this man is still part of my family and always will be."

The title of Garcia's book is a reference to Prince's "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World," which she inspired. Publisher Hachette said the book was due for release in April 2017, marking the first anniversary of the pop star's death.

Prince was also in the process of writing a memoir before his death, however it is not known if the book was ever finished, or if it will ever be released.

The Purple One died on April 21 following an accidental overdose of the painkiller Fentanyl. He was 57.
